MOXI is a polyphonic step sequencer and isomorphic controller  built for iOS. It runs as a standalone app and as an AUv3 MIDI Effect plugin inside hosts like AUM, LoopyPro, and Logic for iPad. MOXI outputs MIDI only — connect it to your synths, samplers, or other sound sources.

Standalone & AUv3 Plugin

Core Features

8 Independent Tracks

  • Each track runs its own 16-pattern library with independent MIDI channel assignment.

  • Mute any track non-destructively at any time. In AUv3 mode, each track routes to a dedicated MIDI output cable.

16 Patterns Per Track

  • Every track has 16 patterns, each up to 16 steps long. Switch patterns on the fly. Pattern 16 is the Inspiration capture buffer — notes played in PLAY mode are automatically recorded there.

Polyphonic Step Input

  • The step grid is polyphonic: place any number of notes at any step, across any combination of scale notes. No monophonic restrictions.

Scale-Locked Grid

  • Select a root note and scale — the grid displays only the notes in that scale. 13 scales available: Major, Natural Minor, Harmonic Minor, Melodic Minor, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Locrian, Pentatonic Major, Pentatonic Minor, Blues, and Chromatic.

Per-Note Velocity and Length

  • Every note carries its own velocity (1–127) and length (0.5–8 steps). Edit velocity by pressing and dragging up or down on any active cell. Edit note length by pressing and dragging right to stretch.

PLAY Mode — Live Input

  • A touch-based chromatic pad layout for playing notes live. Notes are captured automatically into the Inspiration buffer (Pattern 16) for instant recall in the sequencer.

AUv3 Transport & Tempo Sync

  • In AUv3 mode, MOXI reads the host's transport state and musical context directly from the real-time audio thread — the only reliable path for this data. Start/stop and tempo changes propagate to MOXI without any latency.

Session Save & Recall

Save named sessions at any time. Each session stores all 8 tracks, all 16 patterns per track, BPM, root note, scale, and MIDI channel assignments.

MIDI Export

  • Export the full session as a standard `.midi` file — all 8 tracks, ready to drop into any DAW.

Background Play

  • Keep MOXI's sequencer running when the app is minimized, so it can drive other apps via virtual MIDI in the background.

System Requirements

  • iOS 16 or later

  • Compatible AUv3 host required for plugin use (AUM, LoopyPro, Logic for iPad, etc.)

  • CoreMIDI-compatible interface or virtual MIDI required for standalone external MIDI output

What MOXI is NOT

Please note MOXI produces no audio of its own. It is a MIDI sequencer — it sends note data to other instruments. You supply the sound sources; MOXI supplies the sequences.
